4th-8th Grade and 9th-12th Grade Essay Contest

About the contest

 

Would you like a chance to tour North Carolina’s great capitol with your Lieutenant Governor? Well, here is your shot! Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson wants to offer students throughout the state the opportunity to participate in an essay contest. This contest is open only to students who are entering grades 4-12 in the 2021-2022 school year. The prompt for the essay will be on the following topic:

  • What does it mean to be a North Carolinian?

Individual(s) selected from the essay contest will be invited to join Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson on a personal tour of our capitol. This experience will take participants through the North Carolina House of Representatives, North Carolina Senate, North Carolina State Supreme Court, North Carolina Lieutenant Governor’s Office, and many more.

Submissions will be split into two categories: Applicants in grades 4-8 and applicants in grades 9-12. There will be an even amount of individual(s) selected from each category.

The contest is open to students of all types of schools (public, private, charter, vocational, homeschool, early college, etc.)

 

 

Essay Formatting Specifics

  • Minimum word length: 300 words
  • Maximum word length: 750 words
  • Font: Must be professional and easy to read (Times New Roman, Arial, etc.)
  • Font Size: 12
  • Line Spacing: Double Spaced

These formatting specifics are just suggestions. If you choose not to follow these guidelines, your entry will still be valid.

 

Submission Details

For online submission, please email a copy of your essay as a PDF document attachment to

Additionally, please provide your full name, name of your school, and your grade level to the email.

Again, attach your essay AS A PDF DOCUMENT.

 

Alternatively, if you would like to submit a paper copy, please mail your essay to “20401 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC, 27699 – 0400”.

Essay submissions will begin acceptance on June 15th and the last day for essay submission will be on July 19th, 2021.
