Today, Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt visited Forsyth Technical Community College as part of her Future-Ready Community College Tour. During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor toured the Aviation Systems Technology Program and hangar where she spoke with students and educators. Lieutenant Governor Hunt was joined by President of Forsyth Technical Community College, Dr. Janet Spriggs and local elected officials.

“The future of flight is here in North Carolina and our community colleges are preparing their students to make that future a reality,” said Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt, “Thanks to incredible programs like Forsyth Tech’s Aviation Systems Technology, the sky’s the limit for these students!”

"At Forsyth Tech, we are fundamentally reinventing education and reimagining community college to meet the needs of the modern economy and our diverse learners,” said President of Forsyth Technical Community College Dr. Janet Spriggs. “We are building a new learning ecosystem that blurs the line between education and workforce, creating flexible, purpose-built, laddered pathways for every learner. Together, with leaders like Lieutenant Governor Hunt, we are building a brighter future for North Carolina through innovation, partnership, and student-centered support."

During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor toured the Aviation Technology Labs and flight simulator.

The Lieutenant Governor’s visit to the Aviation program comes after the Governor announced the largest economic development project by job commitment in the state; JetZero will invest over $4.7 billion and create more than 14,500 jobs to build its first commercial airplane manufacturing facility in Guilford County.

Lieutenant Governor Hunt’s policy platform, Future-Ready North Carolina, champions investments in child care and early childhood education and workforce development, in part through North Carolina’s community colleges. As a member of both the State Board of Education and Community College Board, the Lieutenant Governor will also emphasize Career and College-Ready Graduate Programs.

The North Carolina Community College System includes 58 institutions dedicated to educating the leaders of tomorrow by providing affordable college courses and programs to anyone across the state. From animals and the environment to trades and mechanics, these schools offer entry-level programs across dozens of industries and provide continuing education to those interested in strengthening their skills in specific areas.
