Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson Responds to Attorney General Merrick Garland

Raleigh, NC
Oct 7, 2021

This week Attorney General Merrick Garland sent a memo to the FBI and state attorneys general; to prosecute parents they consider to be harassing or threatening school board members. First off, I want to state that anyone who crosses the line from freedom of speech to violence should be punished, however, the claim that parents are acting as domestic terrorists is preposterous.

Parents are tired of being ignored when it comes to their children's education. They have voiced their concerns, showed up to school board meetings, and during the COVID-19 Pandemic were given a firsthand look into their children’s classroom. Now, the Biden Administration is working to intimidate them, a tactic often used by the left.

In North Carolina, we have seen large numbers of parents showing up to their local school board meetings and I could not be prouder. They have answered the call to fix an education system that has become the left's personal playground. This political stunt by the Attorney General is another attempt for the left to have continued control over how our children are being educated.

The Attorney General is simply trying to silence parents, end their right of freedom of speech and freedom to protest, and to support an agenda that parents have rightfully stood against. We must not allow the federal government to set a precedence of pushing parents out from having a say in their children’s education.
