Today, Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt announced senior staff hires in her office leading her work fighting for hardworking families, safer communities and stronger educational opportunities to fulfill her vision for North Carolina.
“I’m excited to announce my senior staff and expand our team to deliver for hardworking North Carolinians and their families,” said Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt. “Their experience and skills will strengthen our work to make North Carolina a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Together, the Lieutenant Governor’s senior leadership team has decades of experience in North Carolina politics. Their expertise in legislative, communications, political and organizational work will strengthen the Lieutenant Governor’s office and operations.
Meghan McCarthy Quick
Chief of Staff
Meghan Quick is a dedicated public servant and North Carolina native, born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains. Growing up, Meghan spent her days building tree forts, selling lemonade on Main Street, and playing in her hometown’s local park. A proud graduate of NC State University, Meghan began her career in politics in the North Carolina State Senate and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Political Management from The George Washington University. Her professional work includes significant experience working on statewide campaigns across all branches of government, gaining insight into the political process from the ground up.
In addition to her political work, Meghan has a strong background in impact philanthropy, working for former Governor Jim Hunt and various organizations that focus on critical issues facing North Carolina’s communities. As Chief of Staff to the Lieutenant Governor, Meghan is deeply focused on advancing the priorities of the office while ensuring that the needs of all North Carolinians are at the forefront of policy decisions. She and her husband, Will, live in Raleigh with their two sons, Shepard and Sutton.
Stephanie Dorko Austin
Director of Constituent Services
Greensboro native Stephanie Dorko Austin started working on political campaigns during high school. After college, she returned to North Carolina where she has led fundraising campaigns for dozens of political races throughout the state. She most recently served as Senior Adviser to Lieutenant Governor Hunt’s campaign. Stephanie is a member of the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force and an engaged volunteer with her daughter’s school. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Diaper Train. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity College, Stephanie and her husband live in Raleigh with their daughter and two very sweet and energetic dogs.
Daniel Gilligan
Director of Policy
Daniel Gilligan has been a policy advisor and consultant to Governors, CEOs, Attorneys General, and Legislators in 17 different states. In North Carolina, he has worked for the campaigns of Rachel Hunt, Roy Cooper, Josh Stein, Elaine Marshall, and both Democratic Legislative Caucuses. He is a graduate of NC State University and holds a PhD from Durham University in the United Kingdom. He lives in Raleigh and makes frequent use of our parks, pools, and greenways.
Jordan Monaghan
Communications Director
A native of Charlotte with a background in state government and political campaigns, Jordan served for several years in Governor Roy Cooper’s office and most recently as Deputy Communications Director where he helped the Governor deliver on his promise to make North Carolina a place where people are better educated, healthier and have more money in their pockets. He previously worked on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as Deputy Communications Director for her re-election campaign in 2022 and on former Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon’s Senate race in 2020. Jordan lives in Raleigh with his dog Barley and enjoys seeing movies, spending time outside and checking off each national park from his list.
