Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt was sworn into the North Carolina Community College System Board and joined several committee meetings yesterday and today focused on the board’s strategic plans to support our state’s strong community colleges and student success.
“North Carolina’s community colleges offer so many great educational pathways and are a critical tool in making sure our workforce is future-ready for the jobs of tomorrow,” said Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt. “It’s an honor to be sworn in to this board and I look forward to working with my fellow board members and community colleges across the state to continue strengthening North Carolina’s postsecondary education system.”
The North Carolina Community College System includes 58 strong institutions dedicated to educating the leaders of tomorrow by providing affordable college courses and programs to anyone across the state. Nearly every North Carolina resident is within a 30-minute drive of high-quality, affordable higher education and professional development thanks to our community colleges. From animals and the environment to trades and mechanics, these schools offer entry-level programs across dozens of industries and provide continuing education to those interested in strengthening their skills in specific areas.
As the policy-making arm of the system, the State Board oversees budgets, capital projects, curricula and more. The Board consists of 22 members assigned by the Governor, State House and State Senate. The Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Labor Commissioner and President of N4CSGA (Student Government Association) also serve on the board.
