Today, Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt visited Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Caldwell County as part of her Future-Ready Community College Tour. During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor toured the Electrical Lineworker facility, where she met with students and educators.

“Caldwell Community College’s Electrical Lineworker Institute is teaching students critical skills. Many of the lineworkers who helped get Western North Carolina power back on learned their trade here, at CCC&TI,” said Lieutenant Governor Hunt. “We need to support our community colleges, so they can continue to teach these important skills and prepare North Carolinians for future careers.”

“At CCC&TI, we are committed to providing hands-on, real-world training that prepares our students for high-demand, high-wage careers across a wide range of industries—from electrical lineworker to advanced manufacturing to healthcare and transportation. We work closely with our industry partners to understand their needs and to ensure they have access to a skilled workforce that drives economic growth and innovation in our region,” said CCC&TI President Dr. Mark Poarch. “The continued support of our elected officials is critical in helping us expand these vital technical programs, remove barriers to access, and connect more North Carolinians with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s workforce. We greatly appreciate Lieutenant Governor Hunt visiting our Caldwell and Watauga campuses to see some of the things we're doing at CCC&TI to help our students and industry partners be successful.”

During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor observed the students as they practiced pole-top rescues and saw a substation training course. She also spoke with faculty about the college’s truck driver training program and got to see a tractor trailer.

Lieutenant Governor Hunt’s policy platform, Future-Ready North Carolina, champions investments in child care and early childhood education and workforce development, in part through North Carolina’s community colleges. As a member of both the State Board of Education and Community College Board, the Lieutenant Governor will also emphasize Career and College-Ready Graduate Programs.

The North Carolina Community College System includes 58 institutions dedicated to educating the leaders of tomorrow by providing affordable college courses and programs to anyone across the state. From animals and the environment to trades and mechanics, these schools offer entry-level programs across dozens of industries and provide continuing education to those interested in strengthening their skills in specific areas.
